CryoPen Therapy
CryoPen therapy is a medical procedure that utilizes nitrous oxide gas at high pressure, directed onto the skin. This extremely cold gas effectively freezes and eliminates benign lesions on the skin’s surface. The process is painless and safe, serving to eradicate unwanted superficial lesions.
The CryoPen represents cutting-edge medical technology. When applied, the tip of the CryoPen reaches a frigid temperature of -89°C, creating a thermal shock at the targeted area. This rapid temperature drop crystallizes the fluid within the affected cells, transforming them into ice shards. Consequently, this process ruptures and destroys the membrane surrounding the treated cells, leading to the eradication of skin lesions.
CryoPen is particularly effective for treating benign skin lesions on the skin’s surface, many of which may no longer be eligible for treatment under the NHS due to their cosmetic nature. This procedure can address lesions located on the face, scalp, and body.

F.A.Q.
CryoPen is a state of the art medical device. During the application, the tip of the CryoPen reaches -89°C, this is to create a thermal shock at the region where the gas is pointed by causing a rapid drop in temperatures.
The temperature drop has the effect of crystallising the fluid contents of the targeted cells, turning them into ice shards, resulting in the destruction of skin lesions as the membrane surrounding the treated cells is ruptured and destroyed.
It’s quick, safe and relatively painless.
The CryoPen is a safe an effective treatment for all, from children to adults (we only treat adults over the age of 21 years old at our clinic).
The treatment is quick with no aftercare required.
CryoPen™ treatment is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and those with auto-immune disorders or cold sensitivity are not suitable for treatment.
It is also not suitable for those that suffer from keloid scarring, impaired sensation, impaired circulation, superficial nerves, open wounds, skin cancer, hypersensitivity to cold and cardiac disease.
Repeated short freezing cycles will be recommended if you have a darker skin type. This just means that you may need more sessions spaced a few weeks apart to remove your lesion rather than just one.
The penetration into the tissue is at approximately 1mm per 5 seconds; therefore it will only take 10 seconds to treat a 2mm lesion, with no anaesthetic required. As the procedure is performed you may feel minor discomfort as the freezing takes place, however most clients state this is not unpleasant. The treatment provides a long, deep freeze resulting in a more effective treatment, with fewer repeat visits.
Within approximately 3 days you will notice a change in the treated area, between the seventh and tenth day the skin lesion should shed. Healing will then begin, after 3 – 6 weeks optimum results will be seen.
Skin tags, freckles, sun and ageing spots will generally only require one treatment. Though warts and verrucas tend to have a much deeper root and can require several treatments to ensure the lesion is removed effectively.
As the freezing element is applied you may experience mild discomfort. The treated area can appear red, and may blister post treatment – this is normal.
CryoPen™ treatment is non-invasive and relatively low risk. During the healing process, the treated area may develop some pigment change, either darker (hyper-pigmentation) or lighter (hypo-pigmentation). This colour loss may take longer to return in darker pigmented skin. This will generally improve over a period of a few months but sometimes may persist indefinitely. Some clients with darker pigmented skin may require an alternative procedure for this treatment.
Freezing can cause some irritation to some of the small nerves in the skin and lead to an area of numbness, tingling or hypersensitivity. These symptoms will generally improve over a period of weeks or months.
The safety of Cryotherapy has long been established and the risk of complications when using CryoPen™ is lower than many other treatments and methods. Cryopen™ delivers N2O directly to the area, and not the healthy surrounding tissue. Cryopen™ is both CE and FDA approved.
Removal of skin tags, millia and cherry angiomas is no longer treatable as a standard NHS procedure as it is considered a cosmetic procedure.
